Included processes: This inventory calls processes of material production, representing the material composition of one locomotive. For manufacturing, electricity and light oil burned in industrial furnance are included. For the transportation of materials standandard distance are applied. Remark: This inventory has been developed as part of the AusAgLCI initiative funded by a partnership of Australian Research and Development Corporations (RIRDC, CRDC, GRDC, SRDC, HAL, MLA, DA, FWPA) and Research Agencies (CSIRO, USQ and Q DAFF), with technical support from Life Cycle Strategies. More detail on inventory development can be found in the 'AusAgLCI Methodology for developing Life Cycle Inventory' documents located at www.auslci.alcas.asn.au.The exchanges of the locomotive manufacturing are derived from an assessment of the RE 460, a locomotive which is currently used for goods transportation in Switzerland and also in Germany. The life span of the locomotive Re 460 is assumed to be 40 years resulting in a life time performance of 9.6 Mio. kilometres. The materials with a weight above 200 kg are accounted for. A detailed specification of electronic components was not possible. Total weight of the locomotive is about 84t.; Geography: Manufacturing data represents a locomotive produced in Germany Technology: The modelled locomotive is a rather modern locomotive. For older locomotives, which are still in operation, aluminium and plastic share may be lower.
